Goddess Annapurna Devi, is the Hindu Goddess of Food. Anna means “food” or “grains”, Purna means “full, complete and perfect”.
She is depicted with a golden ladle in one hand and a bowl full of rice in another.
Devi Annapurna is worshipped as the deity of nourishment. She is placed on a bowl of rice in the kitchen facing either east or west.
The rice is used for cooking everyday or taken every Friday and replaced with fresh rice.
It is believed that the Goddess blesses the food and brings in prosperity.
