About Annam Traditions: Traditional Indian Cast Iron Cookware

Our Story

Cook the way home used to taste.

Our founder, Mrs. Lavanya Mukil, is a passionate home cook, the kind who believes a good meal starts long before the stove is lit. Over the years, she has shared her healthy, rooted South Indian recipes with families well beyond her own, including as a regular recipe contributor to Kauvery Hospital's wellness newsletters, where she wrote about everyday dishes like kambu sadam, kollu rasam and black rice porridge.

But in her own kitchen, something kept bothering her.

She simply could not find a good quality dosa tawa, the kind her family had cooked on for generations. The shelves were full of nonstick pans that wore out, peeled, and never quite made a dosa taste the way it should. And the beautiful iron and cast iron cookware she trusted was buried under years of misconceptions, thought of as too heavy, too hard to maintain, too old fashioned.

The more she looked into it, the clearer it became. These were not outdated tools. They were honest ones. Durable, naturally seasoned with oil, and quietly nourishing, the way our paati's kitchen always was. They had simply been left behind.

So she decided to bring them back.

What We Believe

There is deep wisdom in the way our ancestors chose their cookware. Cast iron that holds heat evenly for a dosa with perfectly crisp edges. Iron pans that last decades, not seasons. Traditional kitchen tools built to be used every single day, and passed down rather than thrown away.

Our mission is simple. To bring these rooted, traditional tools back into modern Indian kitchens, and to make them feel easy rather than intimidating. Because good cooking was never meant to be complicated. It was meant to feel like home.

Handcrafted, Rooted In South Tamil Nadu

We are a small team based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and we work directly with skilled artisans across South Tamil Nadu, the people who have shaped iron and cast iron by hand for generations.

Every piece we sell is chosen the way Lavanya would choose it for her own kitchen. Made from honest materials, built to last, and useful for the food we actually cook every day.
